Leadership & Employment
New Student Programs employs enthusiastic and motivated students to help welcome and orientate over 8000 new students each year. The benefits of working for NSP include competitive pay, collaboration with University Student Affairs staff, leadership development and—of course—a festive orange polo!
Orientation Student Leaders (OSLs)
The New Student Programs Student Leader assists NSP in providing orientation and transitional services for new undergraduate students and their families. This position will require short-term and long-term projects in areas including, but not limited to: program presentations, campus-event support, and administrative support. The position will report to the Student Coordinators of New Student Programs as designated.
Welcome Week Student Leaders (WWSLs)
Though their time with us is short, Welcome Week Student Leaders are a very important part of NSP. These students staff huge campus-wide events, such as Convocation, Illinois Sights and Sounds, and Taste of Nevada Street. Their time commitment is much smaller than the OSLs, and the hiring process begins in the middle of the spring semester. Check back in late February for more information.
Orientation Student Coordinators
The New Student Programs Coordinator assists NSP in the development, implementation, and staffing all events throughout the academic year. Coordinators are also responsible for supporting NSP in managing all student personnel and related transactions, which will ensure that the department is able to reach its goals in relation to new students. This appointment is one that requires the candidate to be energetic and passionate about bringing vital information to new students, as this will only prepare them for their academic journey at the University of Illinois.
