Responding to Students of Concern and Reporting Threatening Behavior

Statement

We wanted to take the opportunity to remind our students, faculty and staff about responding to students and others demonstrating concerning behavior. It is important that we, as a campus community, remain familiar with these guidelines and resources for faculty and staff.

It is important to note that if you have immediate concerns regarding a student's behavior, you should contact University of Illinois Public Safety by calling 911. When seeking direction and guidance or to report in a non-emergency situation, during University business hours, call the Office of the Dean of Students at (217) 333-0050 or the Counseling Center at (217) 333-3704. Do not hesitate to also consult with your colleagues, your supervisor, or other campus officials as the situation warrants. We encourage you to "Report" when you are concerned about a student, or other members within our community.

We would also like to note that the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has established threat assessment teams pursuant to the Campus Security Enhancement Act of 2008 to address concerning behaviors. We are confident these teams will respond and provide resources about the many campus safety initiatives that are already in place. Thank you for your continued contributions to keeping our community safe.
